Yes. The ACCV issues the citizen digital certificate free of charge and lets another person collect it with a notarial power of attorney that contains a specific clause. Why the ACCV, and what your power of attorney must say
Two authorities issue the citizen digital certificate that foreigners with an NIE use: the ACCV and the FNMT. Only the ACCV lets an attorney collect it.
ACCV versus FNMT, if you cannot come
| Aspect | ACCV | FNMT |
|---|---|---|
| Does it accept a power of attorney? | Yes, with a specific clause | No: you must sign the application contract before a notary (certified signature) |
| Who goes for you | Your attorney, with the power | An authorised person, with your contract bearing the certified signature |
| Where | An ACCV registration point (PRU) | An ID office, such as the AEAT or Social Security, by appointment |
| Certificate cost | Free in software format | Free |
That is why this service uses the ACCV citizen certificate: it is the route that accepts a power of attorney.
What the power of attorney must say
The ACCV publishes a model clause. We prepare it for you so the notary includes it in your power of attorney.
- That you expressly authorise the attorney to obtain the ACCV citizen digital certificate in your name
- That they may provide your personal details and accept, with their signature, the terms of the certification contract on your behalf
- A general power of attorney is not enough: the ACCV does not accept it without this special clause
- The ACCV model states a validity of 3 months from the signing of the power, so the certificate should be collected within that period
What we need from you
- The notarial power of attorney with the specific clause
- A copy of your passport and of the document showing your NIE
- Your email address and mobile number
- If you are abroad and cannot go to a Spanish consulate, ask us before signing the power of attorney

Frequently asked questions
Can I do it with a power of attorney?
Yes, for the ACCV certificate, with a specific clause; the FNMT requires a notarised signature instead.
The ACCV lets another person collect your citizen certificate if they bring a notarial power of attorney with a clause that expressly authorises them to obtain it in your name. The FNMT, on the other hand, states that a power of attorney is not valid for its certificate: you must sign the application contract yourself before a notary. That is why this service uses the ACCV certificate.
What must the power of attorney say?
That you expressly authorise obtaining the digital certificate in your name.
The ACCV does not accept a general power of attorney. The clause must expressly authorise the attorney to obtain the digital certificate in your name, provide your details and accept the contract terms on your behalf. We draft the wording from the ACCV model, which states a validity of 3 months from the signing of the power.
What is the ACCV certificate used for?
To identify yourself and sign in online procedures in your own name.
According to the ACCV, it is used among other things to manage taxes online with the AEAT, register or deregister as self-employed with Social Security, obtain your employment history or download your census registration certificate. It contains your name, surnames, NIF or NIE and email address, and it is valid for 3 years.
How much does the certificate cost?
The certificate is free; what you pay for is the service.
The ACCV issues the citizen certificate in software format free of charge. Our price covers the power of attorney clause, the collection at the registration point and help to get the certificate installed and backed up. The notary's or consulate's fees are paid separately.
Can I do it by video call?
Not with the FNMT; with the ACCV, only in some cases and for a fee.
FNMT video identification requires a Spanish electronic DNI, which foreigners do not have. The ACCV offers paid video identification that asks for an identity document valid in Spain with a photo. If your case fits, we tell you when we review your documents; if not, the power of attorney is the way to do it without travelling.
What if I am in Spain?
You can go in person yourself; we can also help you with the procedure.
If you are in Spain, you can identify yourself at an ACCV registration point with your foreigner documents, or book an appointment at an FNMT ID office, such as those of the AEAT or Social Security. The FNMT also allows an authorised person to go with your contract signed before a notary. We help you with any of these routes.
How will I get the certificate onto my computer?
We help you install it and save the backup, following the ACCV procedure.
After the collection at the registration point, the certificate is downloaded in software format following the procedure set by the ACCV. We help you get the certificate installed on your computer and backed up, so you can use it for your formalities.
